    floating toy common in the bath in North America, as something one
    talks to, when an answer is not expected.

    This reminded me of the song from which I learned that in France, it's
    usually a red plastic fish that plays this role (un poisson rouge)...

    Rubber ducking is based on the common experience that talking to
    somebody about your code helps you to see why it's not working
    Various people find that talking to a rubber duck works as well as
    talking to a person about it
