If I were choosing, I’d sign up Henry Cavill as the next James Bond.
It's got to be a Brit
Shaun Connery was Scottish and he's the definitive Bond, so I'd say Irish is close enough.
"Brit" is short for "British" or "Britain", which in turn is short for
"Great Britain" or "British Isles", which means the joint countries of
England, Wales, and Scotland (it does not include Northern Ireland,
while "United Kingdom" does). :-)
Henry Cavill is a bit complicated. He's not Irish. He was born and
raised on the small island of Jersey in the English Channel, which is independent and so not part of the "United Kingdom" or "Great Britain",
but the islands are included in the term "British Isles" so he is still "British" to some degree.
I've never seen him in anything, so no idea if he's the right actor to
play James Bond ... then again, I don't like James Bond movies, so
don't really care (*if* "007" and "James Bond" are just codenames for
the agent*, then it explains the different people already having played
the role, and could mean easily changing to a "Politically
Correct"-appeasing woman or different ethnicity).

* It would be rather ridiculous for a secret agent to go around using his
real name after all.
