Hope the new biopic does well, his story is kind of amazing and more
than just a plug-in grill.
To go from Rumble In The Jungle to that grill is a great story.
Tonight I asked a teenager if he had ever heard of George Foreman and I got >> a mostly mostly blank look. Rumble in the jungle? Nothing. George Forman
grill? Big grin. Why yes he did think that name sounded familiar. I’m going
to see the movie tomorrow. I have heard it is good.
I'd be the same way if you asked me about Jim Brown, the actor. Who apparently also played sports.
I'm interested in the movie about the grill man, but I'll wait to watch
it at home.
If you know nothing about George Foreman, then there are spoilers below but come on. This was all in the news.
It turned out to be a pretty formulaic biopic. George is picked on at
school, check. George joins the job corps, check. He finds a trainer,
makes it to the Olympics, becomes a successful wealthy fighter, chooses the wrong investment counselor, finds Jesus, leaves boxing, loses all his
money, goes into training again, becomes heavyweight champion again, and that’s it. Oh yeah, Howard Cosell and Johnny Carson impersonators show up, and there’s a grill.
I saw in the theater because friends invited me to go and I enjoy being
with my friends. I liked it well enough, but waiting for it to show up on
HBO would be a pretty good strategy.
