A morbidly obese man must confront his relationships and his life.
Adapted from the stage play, THE WHALE shows the remarkable strides in fat-suit technology (even though Brendan Fraser has put on actual
weight). For me, unfortunately the serious drama never overcame the side-show. Oscars for Fraser and his makeup. Somewhat recommended.

I passed and haven't regretted it.

Wish I'd liked it more, as lots of talent and effort went into it. Hard
to craft an outstanding flick around a polarizing disability.

They could've been shooting for another My Left Foot.

I have been fighting my weight all my life. I suspect that if I saw it,
I would have nightmares for the rest of my life.

The opposite is "The Machinist" where Christain Bale starved himself
for several months to get down to about 135 pounds. I thought about
trying that but it would be a clear violation of my life time
contract with Guinness!

you see onscreen looks to be 99% fat-suit.

Could be but I saw him in an interview after the film was released
and he looked pretty over weight and out of shape. But who knows,
maybe he was secretly [wearing] a "fat suit".
