I had not seen a Rocky movie in perhaps decades and this isn't a movie I would have chosen to watch, but others were going and I was invited and I wanted to join them, so off I went.
I think the last one I saw was Rocky Balboa, not even sure if that was
the "official end" of the original franchise, if there ever will be such
a thing.
I guess it would have helped if I had had some idea of who Adonis Creed is
in the extended Rocky universe, but I managed to infer enough background to be able to follow along pretty well. It was a good story, well acted, well written. There were no surprises, though one of the fight sequences seemed uniquely imagined and executed. I liked that part of the movie a lot
because, I guess, I've never seen anything quite like that before.
I haven't seen any of the Creed movies, I presume Adonis is the son of
original Rocky nemesis Apollo Creed. I think Stallone might have had
some producing capacity at least in the first one.
They all seem to be generally well reviewed.
All in all it was a fine way to spend a cold, rainy afternoon. If you like the Rocky movies, you really ought to give it a look.
