Not sure if this applies to the big chains like AMC but this was in my
local paper in a larger story about our local independently owned
theater:
"For those who haven't made their return to the theater yet or for those
who just enjoy a good bargain, there's no better time to visit your
local cinema than this Saturday. The Cinema Foundation, a non-profit arm
of the National Association of Theater Owners, announced that Sept. 3
will be a nationwide discount day in more than 3,000 theaters and on
more than 30,000 screens across the country. Participating theaters will
offer $3 tickets for all movies at all showings.
Organizers of National Cinema Day described the event as a trial that
could become an annual fixture. While some other countries have
experimented with a similar day of discounted movie tickets, the
initiative is the first of its kind on such a large scale in the U.S."
We get off pretty easy even when this promotion isn't going on -- it's
normally only $8 for adults, $6 for kids and $6 for everyone during
weekend matinee showings (concessions aren't through the roof like AMC
either).
