One mistake I’ve seen many parents make is attempting to protect their children from themselves and from life. This is misguided. The child should be able to make his own mistakes and learn from them. That is the meaning of freedom.
It doesn’t mean however that you don’t inform the child about the consequences of his actions. One of the most successful parents I’ve known was in a bicycle gang when he was young, then he went legit and rose to become vice president of catering
for Hilton. Whenever his kids wanted to do something, he could tell them the consequences that their actions would have. When I knew him his kids were in university, getting straight As and in no kind of trouble.
It is valid to inform; it is not valid to suffocate. Children should be seen as an intelligent form of life. Work with their mind instead of against their mind. Inform them properly about the world, then leave the rest up to them.
