The Emily Dickinson video project
Over the past few years, I've come to see an advantage to readers in
having a audio or video with a poem. I now find it gives another way to
read a poem: one can play the video, and silently read along following
the text. The advantage of that is that it eliminates hesitation or
stumbling over any words; one hears the poem as it should be read.
In the past few years, I have been actively trying to seek out and add
videos, and today have more than 200 embedded on blogged poems. One
person whom I overlooked was American poet Emily Dickinson. When I
adding another Dickinson poem that month, I discovered to her file, and discovered that only one of her 21 poems on the blog had a video. Right
then and there I resolved to add a video to as many Dickinson poems as possible, and to do it in April for National Poetry Month. Thus the
Emily Dickinson Video Project was born.
I am pleased to report that the Project is completed. All 20 Emily
Dickinson posts now have an embedded video. If you enjoy Dickinson's
poetry, I encourage you to browse the entire selection.
