How else do you get a dozen or so races all inter-fertile with each

etc are more alien to Homo Sapiens than we are to dogs, cats etc.

Yes. Others brought up the TNG episode already. We all accepted that
humans played aliens because of lack of diversity in Hollywood Central
Casting, failing to hire aliens to play aliens. The explanation was unnecessary.
