Charter Shareholders Approve Merger With Cox Communications

    By Jill Goldsmith
    July 31, 2025 7:46am

Charter Communications stockholders have approved the broadband and cable giant’s proposed acquisition of Cox Communications, bringing the deal a
    step closer.

The company said more than 99% of the votes cast at a special meeting of stockholders this morning were in favor of each of the proposals required
    to complete the transaction .

The deal announced in May is expected to close in mid-2026 pending
regulatory approval. It’s a big one, valuing Cox at $35.4 billion.

Within a year after the closing, the combined company will change its name
to Cox Communications. Spectrum will become the consumer-facing brand
within the communities Cox serves. It will remain headquartered in
Stamford, CT but maintain a significant presence on Cox’s Atlanta campus. Charter has said it expects about $500 million of annual cost savings
    within three years of close.

Charter shares are down 2%. They’ve been losing ground in recent months
with investors skittish about the deal.

CEO Chris Winfrey defended the transaction during a conference call with analysts last week, saying the company has a “proven” history of successfully integrating large-scale companies it has acquired, among them
Time Warner Cable. M&A has been part and parcel of the traditional cable business, with Malone one of its foremost practitioners.” The media billionaire John Malone’s Liberty Broadband owns 26% of Charter.

The answer is maybe. From what I understand service isn't great with
Charter, but I haven't heard of the crazy pricing you mentioned so
maybe overall.. it will be better. One can hope. Though likely you
wouldn't see any real changes till 2030.

Currently Cox cable is out completely. The website says there is an
    unplanned outage in this area.

Can’t get much worse than that.

Does Cox have bandwidth limts of any kind?

Yes. I pay for the 500 speed but a couple years ago when they were working
on the lines, they put the wrong limiter on and gave me the 300 speed and refuse to fix it or lower my price or send out somebody to look at it
unless I agreed to pay them $75 for the service call despite the fact that
I pay $10 a month to get free service calls. They also told me the only
thing I could do is buy all new equipment and that I have to buy it from
the Cox store and see if that fixes anything.

Also, they limit you to 10 up for the stated reason that they don’t want anybody hosting porn. In theory, if you go to fiber which isn’t actually fiber which is why they had to change the name of it to broadband or
something it’s synchronous and you get the same up as you do down.

There is a monthly data limit of one terabyte unless you pay an extra 50
    bucks for more.

    Charter aka Spectrum at least
doesn't have that but they do raise the price a few bucks like twice a year it seems like. I only have internet anymore so don't do cable tv at all
    now.
Recently I've considered trying out t-mobile's internet service as it's way cheaper for internet but they don't offer TV except for ad supported
    versions of streaming services.

I fell into a rabbit hole on their website with it telling me I had to
click someplace else to get the information I needed and then kept telling
me my password wasn’t valid even though I’d already put it in like three times to get to the point I was at. I finally gave up.

By the way, i was much more worried for you based on your original attempt to post about cocks/Cox lol

Yeah, that was one of those times spiel. Chuck got me and I saw it even as
it went. I canceled it instantly and reposted. I’ve never tried that before but obviously it didn’t quite work. :-)

Which it wouldn't since the max speed is set by the provisioning they

Cancelling posts (or emails) doesn't work. Once you press 'send' the
message is gone to the newsserver and can't be stopped or deleted. All
the 'cancel' option in some apps does is send a 'delete' post to chase
after the original across all the newsservers in the chain, so is
simply a waste of time and bandwidth. The only time it might work is if
the your newsserver is slow at passing the message on to the next one
    in the chain.

Modern email apps, like Apple's Mail, do have an 'cancel' option, but
only because the message is sent to Apple's servers before it then
continues to the destination, but that extra step obviously briefly
delays the message from actually being sent and received. (The time you
have to change your mind is only 10 seconds.)
