Professional wrestler Terry Bollea, better known as Hulk Hogan, died on Thursday at the age of 71, according to World Wrestling Entertainment.

Bollea is widely recognized as the biggest wrestling star of all time and helped WWE become the behemoth that it is today. In the 1980s and 1990s, Bollea's larger-than-life personality – in and out of the ring – made him a household name and a crossover mainstream star, starring in movies and recognized around the world.

"WWE is saddened to learn WWE Hall of Famer Hulk Hogan has passed away. One of pop culture's most recognizable figures, Hogan helped WWE achieve global recognition in the 1980s," the company said in a post on X. "WWE extends its condolences to Hogan’s family, friends, and fans."

I never knew what his name was.

Considering the steroids these guys take, age 71 is long lived.

As far as movies, didn't he always play his wrestling persona? I don't
recall he ever tried to play another character. Not sure how much
    crossover there really was.

He became very widely recognizable ...to many who know nothing else of wrestling. If that's not 'crossover', it's at least 'breakout'.

Also Anne Burrell died back on June 17th. Wasn't aware of her death
until this latest swath of deaths but used to see her a good deal on
various cooking shows. Sadly took her own life at a relatively young
    55 years old.

And Phil Collins went into hospice, so I can feel it comin' on the air >tonight…

Sad to hear that but he's clearly had health issues since he's needed
a wheel chair for quite some time.

    Bad month for celebrities.

I just downloaded THUNDER IN PARADISE for my memorial viewing. Chris
Lemmon! Carol Alt! And a boat that’s way bigger on the inside than the outside!

I have no particular desire to memorialize that guy but if I did I'd
stick in The Wrestler with Mickey Rourke.

Oh no! What will become of his candid reality show?
