• [OT] Pint-sized Lassie saves owner

From Rhino@21:1/5 to All on Tue Jul 8 12:31:22 2025
I imagine we all have memories of Lassie saving her various owners from
various predicaments in that early TV show but a much smaller dog, a
chihuahua, assisted in saving its human in Switzerland:

    https://globalnews.ca/news/11278265/glacier-chihuahua-saves-owner-switzerland/

Of course this dog didn't do anything quite as dramatic as running miles
for help, like the other dog in the story, but if it hadn't stayed put
to make it obvious where its human had fallen through, its human might
not have been found in time. Hats off to this small but wonderful canine!

Dogs are the best. A dog of mine once warned me when my toddler had
gotten a knife. She was a great dog in general, and I still miss her
    often.

I sometimes tease a co-worker who owns several cats by telling her the difference between a cat and a dog is if you die alone your dog will
guard your body but your cat will eat it.

She laughs and agrees with me.

I had a 120lb mixed breed Labrador/Spaniel and when I left for work,
he'd guard the house like it was Fort Knox to the point I had to put
the dining table chairs in front of the living room window, as he pull
the curtains down if someone knocked on the door.

But when I got home, he felt his work day was done and would barely
open one eye to glance at me if someone knocked while I was there,
as if to say "I'm sleeping here, you gunna get that?"

Sorry, Ed, I'm not following you. How would moving the dining room
chairs in front of the living room window stop him from pulling the
    curtains down.

Sounds like a dedicated union man, not willing to do one small thing
beyond the terms of the "contract" that he had with you, which he
assumed to be guarding the house when you were out ;-)
