• "The View" Goes Sideways When Two Cohosts Claim Black Americans Are Wor

"The View" hosts Whoopi Goldberg and Sunny Hostin claimed on Wednesday that black people in America were worse off than people living under Iran's oppressive regime, a claim that was immediately challenged by others at the table.

During a broader conversation about the ongoing war between Israel and Iran, Hostin claimed that Israel's strike on Iran had not been legal. Goldberg
argued that the legality of Israel's actions should be decided by
international bodies like the United Nations. But when cohost Alyssa Farah Griffin suggested that they should consider the possibility that Iran was a
bad actor, the whole conversation quickly went off the rails.

"Let's just remember too, the Iranians literally throw gay people off of buildings, they don't adhere to basic human rights," Alyssa Farah Griffin began.

"Listen, here's the thing -- let's not do the -- let's not do that, because
if we start with that, we have been known in this country to tie gay folks to the car," Goldberg objected.

"I'm sorry, but where the Iranian regime is today is nothing compared to the United States," said Griffin.

"They used to just keep hanging black people!" Goldberg added.

"It's not even the same," Griffin repeated.

"Oh no! Oh, wait, wait, wait! That's not what you mean to say! It is the
    same," Goldberg declared.

"No, it's not. The year 2025 in the United States is nothing like if stepped foot were this outfit in Tehran right now," Griffin continued. "I can't have
my hair showing, I can't wear a skirt, I can't have my arms out."

Everyone began talking at once, and Goldberg eventually broke through.
"That's why I am saying that it is the same. Murdering someone for their differences not good whoever does it. It's not good. So that's why I said you weren't saying -- what I heard was not what you meant."

"I think it's very different to live in the United States in 2025 than it is
to live in Iran," Griffin did not back down.

"Not if you're black," Goldberg claimed.

    "Not for everybody," Hostin agreed.

"Not if you're black," Goldberg said again.

"Guys, don't go to Tehran. No one at this table should go to Tehran," Griffin insisted. "There are places much darker than this country."

"Not everybody feels that way! Not everybody feels that way!" Goldberg said.

The Nazis didn't seem to have a love affair with the Black people or
the Jews. They just had easier access to the Jewish people.

I had a haircut today at a home salon just down the street from me. It
wasn't my first time there and I already knew that the woman had fled
Iran after the Islamic Revolution. She's a follower of the Bahai faith
and the Iranian theocracy really doesn't like non-Muslims so she left
when it became very difficult after the Revolution.

Her original plan for her life was to become a doctor, something that
was perfectly possible for members of the Bahai faith under the Shah.
Under the Ayatollahs, all doors to higher education were shut to people
who practice Bahai so she ended up learning a trade, specifically
cutting hair. That is distinctly different from the United States where
you can't be shut out of a career just because of your religion. I think
we'd all agree that the American approach is better in this regard.

After the Revolution, she was forced to wear a hijab even though she
wasn't a Muslim. That too is distinctly different from the United
States. Score another one for the good old USA.

I asked her about a claim I'd seen that roughly 10 million Iranians had abandoned Islam since the Revolution, due to their disgust with the
theocracy. I was confused because I'd understood that apostasy (the act
of leaving a religion, in this case Islam) was a death penalty offence
in Iran. She confirmed that it was indeed a death penalty offence. She
didn't know if 10 million of the roughly 90 million Iranians had left
Islam but was sure that those who had left Islam had left it in their
hearts but wouldn't dare admit it in public. I know that Americans are
allowed to follow any religion they like (or be an atheist) and that
leaving one for another is not any kind of crime or civil offence. One
again, America is better than Iran!

I think I'd like to hear Whoopi or her fellow harridans explain just how America is worse than Iran.

I heard an interesting claim in a WWII documentary I saw some years ago.
I think the documentary was American and in one of the interviews, a
survivor of a German POW camp was asked how the Germans treated black
POWs. I was somewhat surprised to hear that the Germans treated black
    POWs just like white POWs.

I don't want to make a blanket claim that black prisoners were treated
as well as white prisoners in every camp at every moment of the war on
the basis of one memory but I'd be interested to know if any historian
has ever examined this question in detail by interviewing Allied POWs
from various camps at various points in the war.

We shouldn't forget that plenty of blacks fought on the Allied side in
WWII. Some were Americans but quite a few were from North Africa and
even sub-Saharan Africa in various battles fought there. I have to
assume some of them were captured by the Germans or their allies, such
as the Italians, so there must be information on how they were treated.

Seems likely to have been a military, rather than ethnic, policy...

Germany. Against all expectations, these prisoners were treated in
accordance with the 1929 Geneva Convention, and the majority made it
