EXCLUSIVE: Psych alumna Maggie Lawson is returning to the TV police ranks
as a series regular on CBS‘ upcoming Blue Bloods universe series Boston
Blue. She joins previously cast Donnie Wahlberg, Sonequa Martin-Green and
    Ernie Hudson.

In Boston Blue, Wahlberg will reprise his Blue Bloods role as NYPD Officer Danny Reagan as he takes a position with Boston PD. Once in Boston, he is paired with Detective Lena Silver (Martin-Green), the eldest daughter of a prominent law enforcement family.

Lawson will play Sarah Silver, the strong willed and decisive
Superintendent in the Boston Police Department who is Lena’s stepsister. Sarah is well aware of the tightrope she can walk sometimes between her job
    and her family.

Hudson plays the patriarch of the blended Silver family, Reverend Peters.
He is the father of Mae Silver, Boston’s District Attorney, and grandfather/step-grandfather of Det. Lena Silver (Martin-Green),
Superintendent Sarah Silver (Lawson), and rookie patrol cop, Isaac Silver.

Boston Blue is produced by CBS Studios in association with Jerry
Bruckheimer TV. Brandon Sonnier & Brandon Margolis will showrun and
executive produce. Jerry Bruckheimer, KristieAnne Reed and Wahlberg will
also serve as executive producers. Anthony Hemingway will direct and
    executive produce the first episode.

The series will premiere this fall, airing in Blue Bloods’ Friday 10 PM
    time slot.

Lawson is best known for her starring role as Det. Juliet O’Hara with the Santa Barbara Police Department on the popular USA series Psych for its eight-season run and subsequent movies, most recently for Peacock. She most recently starred opposite Janel Parrish in the holiday movie Sugerplummed
and opposite Psych‘s Corbin Bernsen in the indie pilot Woodstockers. Lawson’s TV resume includes a lead on Fox’s comedy series Outmatched and recurring roles on CBS’ Two and a Half Men, Fox’s Lethal Weapon and Netflix’s The Ranch and Santa Clarita Diet. She is repped by Gersh and Principal Entertainment.

Let us not forget, she was Nancy Drew, and starred in Killer Hair as well
    as Hostile Makeover.

I'm having major conceptual problems with this. The Reagan's aren't just a cop family. They're an NYPD family. I have a hard time seeing any of them abandoning the NYPD for another department, especially Boston. It's like a 30-year Yankees fan suddenly switching sides to the Red Sox.

Indeed. I imagine it would almost be worse for an NYPD cop family to
have a family member working in another city as it would be for them to
have a member in the NYFD.

I'm also curious to see if Donnie Walhberg is going to be talking in his
native Boston accent now that he's in a show set in Boston even if it is probably filmed elsewhere. Has anyone heard where they're filming? NYC? Toronto? Atlanta?

Of course it should have been a new character and not a spinoff. You're
right. However, I am willing to suspend disbelief if Maggie Lawson wears
    the cheerleader costume again.

Yeah, that was my immediate reaction to having no interest in this. It’s like when a man called Hawk moves from Boston to DC.

This is a truly horrible website, but the article is hilarious

    https://fun107.com/donnie-wahlberg-boston-blue/

“According to Deadline.com, the series was actually pitched to CBS as
Jamaica Plain by S.W.A.T. screenwriters, Brandon Sonnier and Brandon
    Margolis.

Their series idea was about "a family of police officers in Boston whose
eldest daughter is partnered with a new transfer from LAPD." CBS picked up
the show based on that pitch and only recently changed the LAPD transfer officer to a NYPD detective – you guessed it, Danny Reagan.”
