Abbott Elementary        (season 4 finale; renewed for season 5) (8:30 pm, ABC)

Sherlock & Daughter       [new]            (9 pm, CW)

The mystery thriller series SHERLOCK & DAUGHTER puts Sherlock Holmes
(David Thewlis) out of his comfort zone, mysteriously unable to
investigate a sinister case without risking the lives of his closest
friends. Enter young American Amelia (Blu Hunt). After her mother's mysterious murder, she learns her missing father may be the legendary detective. Despite wildly different backgrounds and attitudes, the pair
must work together to solve a global conspiracy, crack her mother's
murder, and find out for sure if she really is Sherlock's daughter.
Dougray Scott also stars as Holmes' nemesis, Moriarty. Eight episodes.

Well, I consistently forget that The CW exists now, so there's pretty
much no chance I will remember to watch this... [shrug]

The Stolen Girl      [new]       (10 pm, Freeform]

Elisa [Denise Gough] is late to pick up her daughter Lucia from school
when Rebecca [Holliday Grainger], the mother of Lucia's new friend,
suggests a sleepover for the girls. When she goes to pick Lucia up the
    next morning, she discovers Lucia's missing. British limited series;
five episodes. Ambika Mod also stars. A Disney+ original that streams in
    the US on Hulu.

And speaking of "dead channels", I don't understand why Disney doesn't
just pull the plug on this one.

            Thursday, April 17

        Streaming:

Leverage Redemption        (season 3 premiere)           (12:01 am,
    Prime Video)

The series moves from Freevee to Prime Video for its third season. Ten episodes; the first three are released today, followed by single-episode weekly releases through June 5.

Well, good for them, but I still have never gotten to it, and probably
    never will...

Ransom Canyon        [new; complete season 1]          (3:01 am, Netflix)

Welcome to Ransom Canyon, where love, loss, and loyalty collide beneath
the crimson mesas of Texas Hill Country. With three ranching family
dynasties locked in a contest for control of the land, their lives and legacies are threatened by outside forces intent on destroying their way
of life. At the center of it all is stoic rancher Staten Kirkland (Josh Duhamel), who is healing from heartbreaking loss and on a quest for vengeance. Staten's only glimmer of hope rests in the eyes and heart of
Quinn O'Grady (Minka Kelly), longtime family friend and owner of the
local dancehall. But as the battle to save Ransom wages on, a mysterious cowboy drifts into town, dredging up secrets from the past. Vise
tightening, Staten fights to protect the land he calls home, and the
only love that can pull him back from the demons that haunt him. James Brolin, Lizzy Greene, Eoin Macken, Meta Golding, Marianly Tejada, Jack Schumacher, Garrett Wareing and Andrew Liner also star. The series is
based on a series of books by Jodi Thomas. Ten episodes.

I like the cast of this one, but it's on Netflix which means, 1) it'll
suck, and 2) I'll never watch it...

Law & Order: Organized Crime       (season 5 premiere)          (3:01
    am, Peacock)

The series moves to Peacock for its 5th season. Ten episodes; the first
two stream today (and the first of those will also air on NBC tonight at

Boarders        (complete season 2)           (3:01 am, Tubi)

Budding environmentalist Jane is a 9-year-old on a quest to save
endangered animals. Using her powerful imagination, Jane takes her best friends David and Greybeard the chimpanzee on epic adventures to help
protect wild animals all around the world. Five episodes.

Whether a documentary or a scripted series, this sounds awful!

    iHostage       (movie)         (3:01 am, Netflix)

In "iHostage," inspired by the hostage situation at the Apple Store in Amsterdam, the Netherlands (2022), a man unwillingly becomes entangled
in a life-threatening situation when an armed man takes a group of
people hostage. A gripping drama unfolds from various perspectives, highlighting courage, survival and the aftermath of terror. 1h 40m.

    Meh.

Companion            (movie; streaming premiere)         (3:01 am, Max)

Sophie Thatcher plays Iris, who joins her boyfriend Josh (Jack Quaid)
and friends at a remote lake house, only to discover that she’s actually
an AI “companion” rented from a tech company. 1h 37m.

Another one I want to watch, but I've really fallen behind on watching theatrical movies off streamers...

Wolf Man              (movie; streaming premiere)         (3:01 am, Max)

A family at a remote farmhouse is attacked by an unseen animal, but as
the night stretches on, the father begins to transform into something unrecognizable. Christopher Abbott and Julia Garner star; 1h 43m.

Ditto - though this one I want to watch to confirm that it's terrible!!

Dead Mail           (movie)        (3:01 am, Shudder)

An ominous, bloody help note finds its way to the desk of a seasoned
dead letter investigator at a 1980’s midwestern post office. As he
begins to piece together the letter’s origins, it leads him down a
violent, unforeseen path to a kidnapped keyboard engineer and his
    eccentric business associate. 1h 46m.

A relatively obscure cast... I dunno - maybe?

A disconnected family finds hope and unity through a cinematic retelling
of Jesus’ final forty-seven days on Earth. Stars Yoshi Barrigas,
Catherine Lidstone, and Emilio Palame. Received a limited release in
    2024. 2h 15m.

    Bah.

Get Rich or Die Trying       (movie)          (8 pm, LMN)

Nicole’s sister Darcie has been missing and is now presumed dead. Taking matters into her own hands, Nic investigates Darcie’s mysterious disappearance and comes face to face with the multi-level marketing
mogul who’s holding her sister captive. With no other choice, she
devises a plan to infiltrate and takedown this demented businesswoman
and her pyramid of schemes. Stars Chelsea Gilson, Jordyn Rolling,
Cristiana Barbatelli, Simone Lewis, and Sophia Andrea Torres.

Meh. While this doesn't appear to be a Hybrid film offering, it looks
about as bad. Still I'll probably watch or record it.

Note: Lifetime's website lists "There's No Way Out" as tonight's
premiere on LMN tonight, but it actually premiered on LMN on April 11.
This movie appears to be the actual 8 pm film tonight.

Correct - I recorded "There's No Way Out" on Friday for later viewing.

his charm and good looks, Kendra gives into her desires and becomes
caught up in a whirlwind romance and spontaneously marries Malcolm. Once
the newlyweds return home, truths about Malcolm’s past start to come to light and he leads Kendra down a dangerous path. Not on IMDb.

Meh. Will probably pass on this, though I'm glad Tasha Smith is still
    around.

of Ohio. As Cheryl begins to solve the mystery, she finds community, belonging and the potential of new love. Will Sugarcreek become Cheryl's
new home? Stars Galadriel Stineman and Kevin Joy. Filmed on location in Sugarcreek, Ohio.

Well, I like Galadriel Stineman, but...

Sins of My Husband       (movie)        (8 pm, Lifetime Channel)

Tony Dandridge is caught and exposed as a serial killer and is killed by
the police. His wife Katherine claims that she knew nothing about her husband’s horrors, but the community and the press don’t believe it and torment her. Her very unlikely supporter is Doreen, the mother of the
only victim of Dandridge’s to survive. It becomes a cat and mouse game
as it appears possible that Katherine or Doreen may be lying or is it
both of them? Stars Alaina Huffman, Hayley Sales, Juliette Hawk, Michael Antonakos, Sarah Christine Smith and Matt Brown.

    I'll probably watch this one.

I watched the first two episodes of this. They basically formed a mini-movie with Stabler going undercover as a trucker to help the FBI bust a cross-border drugs-and-guns smuggling operation. While there, he ends up meeting and befriending the kid of one of the lot lizards (hookers) and uncovering a coven of serial killers among the truckers who are traveling up and down the interstate abducting women and trading them to each other based on each guy's particulars 'taste'. Tragedy leaves Stabler leaning on Benson for emotional support, who shows up to visit him in the hospital and then stays on to work the serial murder case.

Law & Order: Organized Crime (season 5 premiere) (3:01 am, Peacock)

The series moves to Peacock for its 5th season. Ten episodes; the first
two stream today (and the first of those will also air on NBC tonight at
10 pm ET), followed by single-episode weekly releases through June 12.

I watched the first two episodes of this. They basically formed a
mini-movie with Stabler going undercover as a trucker to help the FBI
bust a cross-border drugs-and-guns smuggling operation. While there,
he ends up meeting and befriending the kid of one of the lot lizards >(hookers) and uncovering a coven of serial killers among the truckers who
are traveling up and down the interstate abducting women and trading them
to each other based on each guy's particulars 'taste'. Tragedy leaves
Stabler leaning on Benson for emotional support, who shows up to visit
him in the hospital and then stays on to work the serial murder case.

So, C.J. Box stories (without paying an adaptation license fee) that we
saw on Big Sky, and numerous thriller movies from decades ago

Yes, I know there's nothing new under the sun. Is it at least being done
well? Are the hookers all gorgeous and don't look like they've been
subject to the ravages of their hard life? Should I ask about nudity,
    since this is streaming?

I think Robin missed it, but the final episode of season #3 of "The >>>>>>> Wheel of Time" apparently gets released on Prime today.

It has not been renewed yet for season #4 (though I'm expecting
    it to).

I'll probably start up viewing season #3 today.

Ian, I don't list season finales of streaming shows. There are
    just too
    many. Just broadcast and cable.

That's okay, Robin. Ian gave up making lists of anything long ago and >>>>> so has lost his right to complain.

Excellent points. I was just going to say he was wrong.

But I'm not wrong - the final ep of S3 of "Wheel of Time" dropped
    yesterday.  :p

But you were wrong when you said Robin missed it. She intentionally,
    deliberately, and studiously ignored it.

I use Robin's posts as a "scaffold" - if there's stuff or details she
didn't include, I will generally follow up on it, as I did here.

Which everyone is encouraged to do!

And occasionally, if I get something wrong, please point that out as
well. I promise my feelings won't be hurt. :-)

I just wanted to observe that I don't list season/series finales of
streaming shows (other than occasional series finales that I think are noteworthy).

No nudity and the hookers are mid at best. One was passably cute, but the show avoided the cliche of making them all supermodels. Several of them looked strung out on drugs, which is pretty accurate for truck stop prostitutes.

I too wondered whether the show was going to become more "rough" after moving to streaming-only, like DESIGNATED SURVIVOR did, where each character was apparently obligated to say 'fuck' once per episode after leaving the
broadcast airwaves. But no, it was standard LAW & ORDER fare.

Thanks. They must be concerned with further exploiting the show in
second run syndication, which would likely air on broadcast tekevision
and the need to comply with censorship.
