Because they're doing a full-court press to let them out of prison. They hit a roadblock, though, after hug-a-thug D.A. George Gascon got thrown out of
office last fall and his replacement, Nathan Hochman, has petitioned the court to withdraw Gascon's re-sentencing motion.

I watched it, and no, not only did it not wrap up everything, it added a new twist/cliffhanger in the final episode, one which will probably never be resolved.

I finished this one up. Has it been renewed?

No. A recent Deadline article said that NBC has a lot of decisions to
make because they have to make room on the schedule for a lot of NBA
basketball next season. The article said that prospects seemed promising
for the show, but (my research) the ratings have been dropping all
season. I have enjoyed it and thought it got better as it went along.
