• [OT] Our new PM is a liar

From Rhino@21:1/5 to All on Tue Mar 18 14:34:05 2025
Our brand new PM, Mark Carney, is already developing a reputation as a
liar. I know that it's not completely unprecedented for politicians to
lie but it doesn't make it me remotely more enthusiastic about Carney to
find him already guilty of a number of lies just days after assuming the
    job.

Brian Lilley fills in the details:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K-DtqkWe0Lw [2 minutes]

Unfortunately, his lies don't seem to be getting noticed by Canadians
because most of the media - aside from Lilley and a few others - chooses
to ignore them. They're all in the tank for the Liberals.

There's a very real chance that the Liberals might actually win the
upcoming election and subject us to still more years of lies,
    corruption, scandals, and "woke"/DEI nonsense.

Being the 51st state is starting to look better to some of us than yet
another term of far-left Liberal rule....

I wouldn't mind it so much >IF< we knew in advance it was for 4 years
... but it's NOT - it would be forever and given the cultural
differences between Canada and the US it would clearly be catastrophic
long term and I'm pretty sure that nobody besides Trump and the hard
    core MAGA-ites things different.

There's one helluva difference between "best friends" and those
"married" by a free-trade deal. There's an even bigger difference
between the kind of marriage most of us would recognize and the sort
of marriage practices in say Riyadh.

Most Canadians are supportive of the pre-Trump 2.020 version of the
United States but not at all supportive of the new status quo.

While I understand what you're saying, I personally COULD have been an
American but my life has gone differently. (born in Canada of American
father and Canadian mother - and since he was from a bigger family
than her I've got more American cousins than Canadian)

That said, for all its faults Canada is distinct and worth keeping.

Still can't believe nearly 20 years later I watched the first 3
seasons of the Apprentice "religiously" (as well as Survivor and Big
Brother) though I certainly knew who Trump was before that show.
