"I'm going to buy a brand new Tesla tomorrow morning as a show of
confidence and support for Elon Musk, a truly great American," Trump wrote
in a post published early Tuesday morning on Truth Social.
Trump said "radical left lunatics are illegally and collusively"
boycotting Tesla, which the president described as one of the best
automakers in the world. This action, Trump said, was meant as an attack on Musk and what he stands for.
It is not illegal for consumers to boycott companies. The Supreme Court in 1982 ruled the 1st Amendment protects Americans' rights to protest
private businesses.

Not only that, as a practical matter, how would they know you're boycotting a Tesla or not? Would they presume that if you don't have a Tesla in your garage, you must be boycotting? That would seem to imply a legal requirement for every American to buy a Tesla.
This comes up all the time with regard to Israel and people who boycott it. The Israeli lobby keeps trying to convince Congress to make it a crime to boycott Israel and I ask a similar question every time it comes up. If this law passes and somehow miraculously makes it past the Supreme Court intact, if
you're the U.S. Attorney and the FBI, how do you know if I'm boycotting Israel
or not? Would every American be required to have a certain percentage of Israeli-made products in their home and business?

They'll know because the boycotter will tell them. Few do it silently.

As dumb as he is he could be confusing vandalizing Tesla dealerships
(which is also going on) with boycotting the vehicles.
Of course just demonstrating outside a Tesla dealer isn't illegal as
long as you're on public property, it becomes a First Amendment issue
but he thinks only he can take advantage of the First Amendment.
Today he signed an executive order to withhold education funds from
Maine after the Maine governor had the audacity to talk back to him
during their recent argument at the White House (which he started).

Not if it became a crime, they wouldn't. At least not the vast majority of >people.
