'The Recruit' Canceled at Netflix After Two Seasons
    ---------------------------------------------------
Netflix's espionage dramedy "The Recruit" has been canceled
after two seasons with the streamer, Variety has confirmed.

Colton Dunn, who played former CIA operative Lester Kitchens
on the show, took to Threads Wednesday night to announce the
    news.

"'The Recruit' has been cancelled y'all," he wrote. "Such a
bummer. I'll share some pics and fun memories on IG but just
wanted you to hear it from me. Thanks if you watched. I'm
AVAILABLE NOW! Hire me for you tv story!!"

"The Recruit" ran for 14 episodes across two seasons, first
premiering in December of 2022. According to the official
logline, the series followed, "Owen Hendricks (Noah Centineo),
a CIA lawyer [who] becomes involved in massive international
conflicts with dangerous parties after an asset tries to
expose her relationship to the agency."

Other cast members include Aarti Mann, Fivel Stewart, Vondie
Curtis-Hall, Kaylah Zander, Kristian Bruun, Angel Parker and
Jesse Collin. "The Recruit" was created by Alexi Hawley, who
also served as showrunner and executive producer. Hypnotic
and Lionsgate produced the show for Netflix. Executive
producers included Centineo, Doug Liman, Gene Klein, David
Bartis, Adam Ciralsky, Charlie Ebersol and Julian Holmes.
Season 2 directors included Hawley, Holmes, Jessica Yu, Viet
    Nguyen and John Hyams.

In February, Variety reported that "The Recruit" Season 2,
which was named one of Variety's most anticipated shows of
2025, debuted with 5.9 million views in its first four days on
Netflix. It landed in second place on the English-language TV
chart, only falling behind "The Night Agent" Season 2, which
    hit 15.2 million views.

This surprises me, as this series has seemed to be better received than
"The Night Agent", the latter of which has been roundly roasted for its
    second season.

But it proves, once again, that Netflix cannot be trusted with its
original TV series, as Netflix inevitably cancels them (esp. the better
    ones) too soon.

One possible explanation: Someone recently said that streaming services
are only interested in gaining new subscribers, not those already
subscribing. A new show will (supposedly / hopefully) pull in new
subscribers wanting to watch it, but once it gets past a seaosn or two,
it no longer attracts new subscribers, so teh streaming service cancels
it and brings in something else new to again attempt to pull in more
    new subscribers.

I can see why the morons in management would believe that should work,
but for those of us with actual brains, it's easy to see it is a
incredibly silly way of doing anything and way it (and many streaming
    services) fail miserably.

I am surprised given that the show was apparently well received
according to their own numbers. I enjoyed it and would have watched a
third season if they had followed through with the show. I can see
people starting to think like they used to think about Fox. Fox was
infamous for having innovative science fiction shows starting every
new TV season and then canceling most after a single season. So why
bother watching new Fox Sci-Fi when everyone knew the show wasn't
likely to make it past that first season.

They may believe that but it is only going to drive away the long term subscribers because they won't have any reason to stick around. If
Netflix comes up with a new show that they like they may subscribe
again or not. After all, cable companies long ago found out just how
hard it is to gain a new customer versus holding on to an existing
customer which is why they work hard to avoid that churn.

I was done with it anyway. The Recruit's writing was abysmal. Both
seasons ended ridiculously. I was hoping season 2 would be better and gave
it a shot but am sorry I watched either one. They killed off one of the
main characters in season 1 with absolutely zero explanation then the final
of season two they acted like every main player was never more than 100yards from each other. They even threw in a dues ex machina, submarine
The Night Agent was good for one season.
