Donald Trump and Kanye West's 'Friendship': A History

Donald Trump and Kanye West have more things in common than you might
expect. They both enjoy using Twitter. They�re both a part of world-
famous families. They�ve both explored the idea of running for president.
And apparently, out of these similarities has sprung a friendship.

After West�s visit to Trump Tower today, Trump told reporters that the
two have �been friends for a long time.� West, on the other hand, �just
wanted to take a picture.�

But how long have the two been friends? And really, have they been
friends at all?

Trump talked about West at a September 2015 rally and press conference.
The comments were prompted by West�s own announcement that he would be
running for president in 2020 � or at least, that�s what he implied.

Though Trump seemed far from clinching the White House back then, he
revealed himself to be a big fan of Yeezy�and claimed that the feeling
was mutual.

�You know what, I�ll never say bad about him. You know why? Because he
loves Trump!� the President-elect said at the time. �He goes around
saying, �Trump is my all time hero.� He says it to everybody. So Kanye
West, I love him.�

Even so, Trump admitted if he had to battle him for the presidency, his
warm feelings may change.

�Maybe in a few years I�ll have to run against him, I don�t know, so I�ll
take that back,� he said. �But he�s been so nice to me. I would never say
bad about him because he says such nice things about me.�

Trump�s claims that he wouldn�t say anything bad about West weren�t
always true. After the rapper infamously stole the mic from Taylor Swift
at the 2009 VMAs, Trump said that West�s actions were �disgusting� � and
even called for a Kanye West boycott as punishment, so �this kind of
thing doesn�t happen again.�

�He couldn�t care less about Beyonc�,� he said. �It was grandstanding to
get attention.�

Four years later, Trump spoke out again � not about West, but about his
equally famous wife, Kim Kardashian West. During an appearance on The
Howard Stern Show, Trump and Stern debated the, err, merits of her
assets.

�Does she have a fat ass? Absolutely,� Trump said. �And if it weren�t
Kim, they�d say, �Wow, I don�t want to go out with her.'�

But after the election, at a concert in San Jose, West admitted that he
was Trump supporter, saying he admired Trump�s performance during the
debates. �I loved the debates, I loved his approach.� Despite these
words, West�s feelings of support were not intense enough to get him to actually go physically vote for him.

West also had some lofty ideas for Trump�s cabinet, saying that he
thought Hillary and Bill Clinton�as well as President Obama�should serve
as �consultants� in a Trump administration. Perhaps the musician is
making a greater effort to work across the aisle than the majority of Washington.

This bipartisanship seems to have played a role in his visit to Trump
Towers on December 13. �I feel it is important to have a direct line of communication with our future President if we truly want change,� he
wrote of the meeting on Twitter.

Trump says they talked about �life,� while West tweeted that the pair
discussed �multicultural issues� including �bullying, supporting
teachers, modernizing curriculums, and violence in Chicago.�

Does this meeting also signal a potential inauguration performance or
even a cabinet role? Only time will tell�
