• Royal Markings

From Calvin Henry-Cotnam@21:1/5 to All on Thu Feb 20 12:12:09 2025
It just occurred to me the other day that the signage at the Weatherfield Police station still has the "E-II-R" marking on it.

Typically, how long does it take for things to start changing with
    a change of monarch?

I would understand that budgets are tight and some things don't get
changed until they need to be for repair/maintenance purposes, but
    the curiosity crossed my mind.

Part of this is because when I visited the Mail Museum in London
a few years back, I snapped a photo of a mail pilar that had
the "E-VIII-R" marking on it. The display mentioned that a few of
these were actually installed before Edward abdicated less than a
    year of becoming monarch.

Things are gradually being changed as they wear out or are refurbished. As you
mention, things are a bit tight here; little headroom in budgets.  My own organisation has some terrifying numbers in a couple of years!

There is still loads of EIIR around, I must admit I prefer it stylistically - but I am that rare thing, a fan of brutalism.  I love the plainess and lack of
    adornment.

Ah for the Royal mail in days gone by! two deliveries a day rather than the suggested "wait even longerhan before for second class post" ! Maybe the box markings need to be changed so we don't remember.:-)

How are you Cal?  This group is pretty quiet now, and we lost Gordon D on Hogmanay.  I decided not to risk travelling to Edinburgh in Jan, (remembering
that I am mobility restricted and a fall could put me out of circulation for some time) but watched the service online.

Keep well James, I know just how you feel, having problems myself.

Same here!  Currently the biggest excitement of my day is what the Platt's are
    doing :)

Which is invariably something not good. :-)

I've been doing well. Been dealing with my father going into hospital
several times since last April. He's back home now and we've had to
make a number of arrangements with a hospital-type bed and PSWs to come
in for a few hours each day, but at least he's back in his own home again.

I've been threatening retirement at work for the last two years, but I've
been hanging on to get one last trip to the UK on their dime. ;-)
That last trip is now tenatively going to be in September.

I'm looking forward to seeing a friend who I've kept in touch with, particularly over diet and health issues. He's dropped a few stone
since I last saw him in 2022, and I've managed to lose 12-13 kg
since last August, so we have some notes to compare.

Let us know when you're coming over and where - a lot going on myself
(burned out storage unit, ill mother in law, and now both our jobs at
risk) but might be lucky with dates!

For sure once dates are more solid.

Wow! Sure hope things improve for you and your family.

Thanks - jobs now confirmed safe until at least March 2026 so at least that's something...

A big something the way things are, I am pleased for you - one worry out of the way.

Good to hear. May be a small step, but at least it is forward.

Thanks.  And I'm travelling back to Wales to meet the storage insurer this week
    - see what is salvageable.  He is relatively hopeful a percentage has survived.

    James

Good luck James, hope it works out that way.
