What a great year for films. Somehow doubt 2022 will match it.
The 1970s and 1980s were the heyday for TV and movies. Since about the
2000s Hollyweird has been stuck in an idiotic "reboot" all the old
shows mentality or just pumping out yet another sequel/prequel/spin-off
to a firmly established franchise - either way sheer laziness and
uncreative.
Sequalites goes back to at least the original Tarzan movies.
Making sequels predates the movies entirely, but the lazy talentless
generation infesting Hollyweird these days has taken it to a new level
where they're *almost* doing nothing else. Even when it is something
"new", it tends to be "based on" an existing book (or even board
game!), but butchered beyond any real recognition.
