I recently bought a Texas Cichlid as a tank mate for my Oscar. The Texas is about 4.5 inches long and the Oscar is 5 inches. The man at the fish shop picked this fish as a fish which would be good to put with an Oscar. He said it
would hold it's own with Oscar. He certainly is! I have not seen any actual combat, but the Oscar is now regulated to one end of the 55 gal tank (I know, I
intend to invest in a larger tank before too long), the Texas just darts toward
him every so often if he gets too close to his side. The Texas seems to be allowed anywhere though. The Oscar only eats what is on his side of the tank and won't venture into Texans side. I'm wondering if this will change or is this how Oscar is fated to spend the rest of his days? If so I am going to seperate them. Do I have a "chicken" Oscar?

This is the exact same thing that happened to me. I was looking for a tank mate for my oscar the would not end up becoming fish food and the guy at the pet store picked out this Texas Cichlid who is a tab bit smaller then my Oscar. My thought was it's
big enough to not become a meal, but not big enough to fight my Oscar. Boy was I wrong. Anyway what did you end up doing? My fish are about the size in your article. Did they work it out or did you end up separating them?
