Has anyone used potassium permanganate for staining new #3 pine?
I can not get the antique wood color that I am looking for with the
Minwax stains.
When I was young in the 50s and 60s, we used to roll back the rug in preparation for a dance. My father, a country doctor with a dispensary, used a potassium permanganate solution, a deep purple colour, to stain the bare boards. They came up a fine deep
brown colour. (We then sprinkled french chalk of course).
