  • Deliberate (?) snub

From Tony@21:1/5 to All on Thu Jul 17 01:51:03 2025
    XPost: nz.politics

Te Pati Maori has once more missed its legal deadline under the Electoral Act, missing the 30 June deadline to file audited financial statements.
This is despite being formally warned by police last year for the same offence. The party has also yet to provide an audit report for last years overdue financials.
The Electoral Commission claims it is following up. https://centrist.nz/te-pati-maori-under-pressure-again-over-missing-financials-and-byelection-feud/?utm_source=Klaviyo&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=17-7-2025&ulk=none&_kx=r-9yRwOooklJ4fu8JfYI0L2yjNQJoEDhB4PntHsLeWo.VYfxNg
Is this another insolent, deliberate snub of the authority and mana of parliament or is it just the result of a party being run by a bunch of amateurs? Perhaps both.

Perhaps they need to seek advice from Winston Peters - he is a fellow
Maori and has plenty of experience of problems with electoral returns.

The Maori Party have failed to meet legal requirements to file
financial data. I am no fan of Peters but do not recall any sustained
failure to file the same data.

I do recall an issue involving NZ First channeling political donations
through a trust (NZ First Foundation) but this is not in any way
similar to the problems that The Maori Party have with the Electoral Commission.
