You couldn't make this up.
I don't care whether rich people enjoy their mone, they earned it so they can
spend it. But don't preach to the rest of the world and do the opposite.
He is not alone in this behaviour. Take any Climate Summit, how many of then >walked to the venue.
Interesting that this appears to be a repeat of this article :
https://www.nzherald.co.nz/entertainment/la-fires-leonardo-dicaprio-criticised-for-fleeing-wildfire-on-private-jet/SEWAXXJTGVFXZKDTRZFBZEKNFY/
and of course many others that have found someone to take attention
away from stupid statements from the likes of Trump.
Very few people would be surprised at the actions of Di Caprio - he is
even by USA standards extremely wealthy, and he has always lived and
traveled well - money is clearly of little importance, but he has
donated much more than the $80 million referred to by Waikanae Watch
to various charities.
The opening sentence "rules for thee, but not for me" are far less
applicable to De Caprio than to many far-right supporters of Trump in
America or the far right in New Zealand - DeCaprio does not set rules,
and does not appear to have broken any. The jet is however a very
public act of self-interest but given his wealth probably of no more
real significance than Christopher Luxon using a Government Limousine
to cross the road after being elected - the rules for thee but not for
me could describe many far-right politicians who through huge
donations to groups like the NZ Taxpayer Union are funding a Trumpian propaganda machine to avoid effective action on a lot of things - with
climate change being aggressively denied and ignored. Still, hypocrisy
goes down well with the far-right - they could not live with
themselves without it - and Tony admires that hypocrisy . . .
