Who am I talking about? Shane Jones, of course.

Both Jones and Winston Peters have a reputation for not mincing words.

The difference is, Jones knows how to treat the media with respect.

Presumably you have a reference, that would make a pleasant change. So do you?

assertion if you would prefer. I think both Jones and Peters can both
treat the media with respect and not mince words - an example for
Peters is his response to questions about events in Lebanon earlier
today. Both can however also make other statements that at times may
appear to be deliberately unreasoned - Christopher Luxon can also at
times treat the media with respect, but he can also rival Jones and
Peters and some of his Ministers in almost deliberately being a Voice
    of Unreason . . .

best way to encourage rational posts in response on nz.general . . .

There is "of course" absolutely nothing wrong with personal opinions wheher substantiated or not, if it was otherwise you would never post here.

It was well done; as was his deliberate linking of the governments
views with those of Helen Clark: https://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/foreign-minister-winston-peters-and-former-pm-helen-clark-united-on-failings-of-un-security-council/DVJKYEXHSNAAHMW4BQ56CT7J2Y/

Domestically, Peters still plays the larrikin, he has bought Seymour
by leaving Costello to be more erratic far-right than even the ACT
party, but runs rings around Luxon when he wants to - and I suspect
Luxon knows that allowing Peters to go where he wants as Foreign
Minister is not only essential, but also for once a good decision.

for a good summary of Winston Peters, see: https://www.nzherald.co.nz/the-listener/politics/duncan-garner-the-day-i-told-winston-peters-to-bugger-off-and-why-im-glad-hes-back/GPWASOB5U5HUFKOULDTDKUJSPE/

I suspect he will stand again if his health continues to be
reasonable; without him NZ First has very little credibility - Shane
Jones has wasted opportunities and would not be a credible leader for
    NZ First.

The article makes it clear that he has contacts with the tobacco

Shane Jones has acknowledged the engagement, but does not care that

I have spent time working in newsrooms. Journalists are typically

It is a bit speculative to say that because someone currently working
for a tobacco company was a former employee of NZ First, that Shane
Jones has links to the tobacco industry. The party does have those
links though. It does not take too much work to uncover similar links
    to the fishing industry.

I agree with many NZF policies, but the party leader and others such
as Shane Jones are charlatans - they enjoy the political power and
theatre of Parliament and public attention, but never produce anything
of lasting worth because in NZ that requires membership of Labour or
    National.

Not at all off topic - money not wasted can be used elsewhere. We do
not know if Shane Jones colluded with Costello on the huge reduction
in tax for the tobacco company, but certainly he has ties to Philip
Morris - just as do a number of National Party MPs. If the coalition
were not spending so much giving tax cuts and other benefits to
political donors , they could possibly have afforded to help National
out with a real election promise - to complete the new Dunedin

You reacted to a post by Tony with a claim that he is a defamer, and
that you "don't support Jones or any party", and then that you "prefer
    truth."

In the context of the thread, you were responding directly to a
statement by Lawrence - you are the poster that insists that others
stick to the topic of the thread - but as you are demonstrating again
you love making up rules for others that you do not follow yourself.
Now you are getting increasingly embarrassed because you cannot
identify anything to support your egregious attach on Lawrence, just
as you have repeatedly done in other threads in relation to other
posters. Your persistent attacks on others and your hypocrisy on not
following your own "rules", your lying about the meaning of posts from
others and your persistent lying do you no credit.
Of course Shane Jones has ties to the tobacco industry - he likes
anyone that donates money and like many of his fellow travelers tries
his est to return value for those donations. It is however worth
noting when he actually gets something correct - it doesn't happen
often, but sometimes he actually appears to have some laudable
objectives. You however Tony appear to never have any redeeming
features. You are persistently loathsome to other posters,
misrepresent those you try to attack, and generally have no substance
behind any matters that you raise or wish to argue. You are a blight
    on Usenet and on nz.general.

Yes that is a fair comment, Lawrence. Both countries have used the
    veto power a lot - see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_Nations_Security_Council_veto_power
and vetoes from Russia have become more frequent in recent years, but
yes the vetoes in relation to Israel may well have contributed to the
current rulers thinking they can get away with anything.

Bill can speak for himself but really, do you really, "really" think your response has any logic to it? There are many reasons why someone who works in a newsroom has absolutely nothing to do with copy. Geez you are very thick!

He was not claiming to have anything to do with copy - just that he
had seen liars, deceivers and manipulators while working in newsrooms.
    Try thinking before posting, Tony..

I made it clear that he nhad made no claim that he was dealing with copy. It was in response to Lawrence's stupidity is assuming that Bill was one of those that did.
You made a stupid assumption and now you are digging deeper. Give up little boy.

Certainly not. I was there only in an engineering and technical
capacity. I was able to witness their fascination with the salacious
and sordid side of human behaviour. Professional gossips is what they
are, and they are overwhelmingly left leaning. That was more than 20
years ago. The media today is far worse than it was then.
