Hamster's help files are in HLP format and designed for the old
WinHlp32.exe; this format has not been supported since Windows Vista, and WinHlp32 versions don't run after Windows 8. See <http://support.microsoft.com/kb/917607> for more information.

There are current help files in German as part of the Hamster Classic Beta releases, see <https://hamster-classic.de/download:download> (you can use
Gogle Translate or Deepl). I don't have a source for current help files in other languages.

I have not used Leafnode, but it is probably similar. Both are just a
'proxy' server. To your newsreader, Hamster looks like a news server. To
your real news server, i.e. in your case Eternal September, Hamster
    looks like a newsreader.

I just had a look at the Help (for Hamster Classic) and I think you
should start with (assuming you already installed Hamster itself), or at
least can use the Help file):

Help -> Contents -> (optionally: A short introduction) -> Installation

I think it works like this:
Hamster downloads new articles on your account on a regular interval
You read those downloaded articles from Hamster (even offline)
"Posting a reply" puts the message into a message queue
Next time it fetches articles, it also posts the queue

It's mainly that, but Hamster can also accept regular feeds, which makes
it a real news server. And you can download from multiple servers, so you will never miss any message.

    Regular feeds? Multiple servers?

    Yes to both.

I found this but it's in french and outdated :

    http://hamsterfr.free.fr/

And it's not even the latest version (which must be from 2005 more or
    less).

The heading is not very obvious, but in Hamster Classic's Help, it's
    FAQ... -> Installation/Configuration -> "Feeding" newsgroups with
    Hamster.

    Hamster still very usefull.
I run Hamster Playground v1.25.2 for many years.

In my opinion, the helpfile is good, basically it cover every functions
with examples. Win 10 and 11 run it.

I have the hierarchy "hamster.*" with old posts. Have good tips from

here's an intersting question I haven't found out yet: how long is the interval and how do you change it? I don't seem to be able to find a
setting for that in Hamster (I just installed it) and have not found
    anything in the manual yet.
From what I can see it should be defined by script within Hamster?

    Sorry, I don't know.. I don't use hamster.

    Hi Kyonshi,

    (from Hamster Playground):

    - In Hamster Control:
First you have to add a nntpserver, then

"Tasks" / "Setup User Tasks / Add" - give it a name and add the
    nntpserver - Save

    - "Tasks" / "Setup Scheduled Tasks / Add" -
Look for the Task you have created and save

This window will show all the options to configure that task.
