  • Request for MAXSIZE data from NNTP sysops

    This is not an attempt to start a discussion or debate about optimal
    message sizes or the reasons therefor. None of that is relevant to my
    query.

    I request NNTP sysops to respond with the exact maximum message size
    enforced by their configurations for:

    1. Posting
    2. Forwarding / Receiving from other peers.

    I do not need to know the addresses of the servers. I just need maxsize
    numbers that are in actual use.

    I am making an application and this information may be helpful in
    tailoring the default settings of the installation script.

    I only run a testing news server so my configuration does not count much
    (I have set up 600 kB for both values, which is enough for large FAQs).

    I am however peering with feeds that ask for articles of less than 256
    kiB (about 262 kB) or even 100 kB for one.
