I saw myriad rmgroups in hun.* but no checkgroups. Just curious what
newsgroups are sticking around or if the entire hierarchy is out of
    business.

    Hi Adam,

I saw myriad rmgroups in hun.* but no checkgroups. Just curious what newsgroups are sticking around or if the entire hierarchy is out of
    business.

I also saw them yesterday and wrote to Gábor Kiss, the sender of the
    rmgroup control articles.
He confirmed there had not been any normal traffic in hun.* since
several years. And after 30 years of service, he got tired and decided
    to remove it.

One newsgroup was sticking around, and got removed a few hours ago.

The hierarchy and its PGP key can be removed from control.ctl and PGPKEYS.

    RIP.

I know that Russ prepended a note to HIERARCHY-NOTES that he's not
maintaining it, probably two decades ago. Nevertheless, it has a list of defunct hierarchies in it.

Would you add this information to the list with today's date?

    This should be documented.

    Hi Adam,

The legacy HIERARCHY-NOTES file is now here:
    http://usenet.trigofacile.com/hierarchies/notes-about-hierarchies.html

I recently integrated it to my web site.

    This should be documented.

I agree it is worthwhile documenting.
I have added a note for hun.*:

Created in April 1995 by Nándor Horváth and Gábor Kiss, the
Hungarian hierarchy eventually lost its normal traffic. It was
totally and properly removed in March 2025 with 53 rmgroup control
articles sent by Gábor, one of its co-founder.

I hope it is enough for you. Otherwise, please tell me what you would
like to add. Also, if you have other information to add to the new
hierarchy notes, feel free to tell, and I'll gladly add them :)

It makes me think I should update the notes for the microsoft.*
    hierarchy! Will do.
