The community was originally spelled with two separate

finally remarked "Why not name the town Why Not and let's
    go home?"

Why, Arizona is a small community near Ajo...it gets its English name
from the three-way road intersection around which it formed (Arizona law
at the time it was found prohibited the simpler name of "Y"; the O'odham
name is "Ban Hi:nk", a native name that unashamedly uses the IPA "long
    vowel" indicator in its orthography)....r

In southern Arkansas there's "FarFromPoopen road",
which is apparently the only way to get to "Constipation
    Ridge" :-)

An AUE regular -- but I can't remember who it was -- used to cite
Coalinga in California as a quirky name. Apparently it was originally
    called "Coaling A".

There's a village in Devon called Westward Ho! (complete with
exclamation mark). When I looked in Wikipedia to determine its
location I found that it's outdone by a place in Quebec called Saint-Louis-du-Ha! Ha! (including *both* exclamation marks).
