Braking distances for freight in Australia?
Hello,
found a report about the Dec 2019 accident with
a 2000 tonne freigh train hitting another one
stopping at a signal. Train driver (R.I.P.)
failed to stop at an earlier signal indicating
danger and only started Service braking after
entering a 30 km/h speed limit zone, ignoring
an announcement 2500 meters ahead.
Would like to know: Which are maximum braking
distances for freight in Australia running
at legal maximum speed?
Found GW 16 as a standard braking curve but not
the curve itself.
Regards, ULF
