I received an inquiry from someone who is starting a private company
that will provide unemployment insurance. (Yes, I know it doesn't make
any sense. But it's not my job to question that at this point.)

The question is, which 1099 form does he use? The only thing I can
find on the IRS website that talks about unemployment payments is the
1099-G, but that appears to be only for use by governmental agencies.

Do I have it wrong? Does he use the 1099-G? Or should he use another
form?

Makes no sense to me also. As far as I can tell there are no new private policies being written by any company today. That said, the 1099-G is
for government payments only. The only other form available that I can
think of is the 1099-MISC Box 3 Other Income.

That's what I was thinking too, but I don't do returns so am not as
familiar with all the nuances as you are. Thanks!
