    Making the iPhone required accessories which did not fit anything else is
    one of the ways that Apple became the most profitable company in the world.

    The iPhone quite easily connected (and still does) to Windows machines precisely because the supplied cable had the USB Type A connector on the
    other end. So that's a non issue.

    Indeed despite the silly European USB-C edict, hundreds of millions of
    USB-C to USB Type A adaptors will be shipped to connect to older
    computers. So much for the reduction of e-waste.

    By the time USB-C becomes truly ubiquitous, it will be obsolete...
