Apple today announced iPhone 16e, a new addition to the
iPhone 16 lineup that offers powerful capabilities at a more

black and white - with colorful cases available to accessorize.
Pre-orders begin Friday, February 21, with availability

Product Marketing. "We're so excited for iPhone 16e to complete
the lineup as a powerful, more affordable option to bring the

These are IMHO the two relevant remarks. The post was simply redundant
and had no added value at all.

Sure. Thanks for asking. The iPhone 16e, in my humble opinion, is an iPhone
    16 with a less-powerful GPU (4-core vs 5-core), a single rear camera
instead of a dual-camera system, a lower peak brightness display, and it
does not support mmWave 5G, Wi-Fi 7, or Ultra Wideband.

What I can't find yet, and which I hope others find for me, is the proof
that, yet again, Apple put the crappiest battery it could get away with in
    it.

When I say "get away with", that's in terms of the EU forcing Apple for the first time in Apple's history, to ensure the historically crappy iPhone batteries last a certain number of charge cycles - which is directly
related to the initial amp-hour capacity (and no, a 1% increase in
optimization can not negate a 150% size difference in the capacity).

To add further value to that which "NEWS" posted, here are the reputed specifications for the iPhone 16e, released today, February 19, 2025:

Both of the two brainless dimwits who replied above your post above are

I could have posted the entire press release, which was about four

First off, since I'm an intelligent person with an adult point of view, I
was very clear in stating that I appreciated the original post by Your Name (and I said so in a separate conversation with badgolferman already).

Secondly, since I'm an intelligent person who happens to keep abreast of
this news, I already presaged the release with multiple posts in another thread, which I've been updating for days, as Apple slowly supplied rumors.

Thirdly, I replied yesterday with an accurate, yet detailed summary of
what's different between the two iPhone (namely the iPhone 16 & 16e).

Counting the "two" posters who replied above Chris' post, I only see Joerg Lorenz, whom, I would agree with YourName on his rather crude assessment.

    However...

While I've been presaging this crappy iPhone's upcoming debut for a while
now, I also very much appreciate the purposefully helpful post by Your Name even though the amazingly flowery words by Apple would make a grown man
blush - in that Apple is *fantastic* at describing its crap as beautiful.

Bear in mind I'm better informed than the Apple trolls are; hence, I
already had formed my preliminary opinion based on the earlier reports, not only based on what turned out to be correct about its weaker GPU (4-core vs 5-core), its less-capable single rear camera, its lower peak brightness display, and its lack of mmWave 5G, Wi-Fi 7 and Ultra Wideband support,
but also based on the reported extremely crappy battery capacity.

On the up side, Apple is tacitly admitting what I've said about its paltry
RAM has always been true in that, up until AI, Apple put the crappiest
amount of RAM it could possibly get away with into all its iPhones.

*Only now, with AI, has Apple been forced to add a modern amount of RAM.*

Ah, I just figured it out. My bad. I had to go to a search engine to make
sure I hadn't myself filtered anyone out, which included our esteemed
Professor Lorenz, whom I would think *everyone* would have filtered by now.

I see, based on the way the search engine shows results, that the order was
    1. YourName (initial informative post)
    2. Chris (deprecatingly asking for an opinion)
    3. Professor Lorenz (adding negative value, as usual)
    4. Chris in Makati (rightly chastising Chris & applauding the OP's intent)
    5. Professor Lorenz (adding even more negative value, as usual)
    6. Then YourName, the OP (pointing out the "two brainless dimwits")

I'm surprised, with "brainless dimwits" being the topic, that Alan Baker
didn't post in that sequence above, as I personally abhor killfiles (due to
the amount of work they entail to manage) but both Professor Lorenz and
Eraser Alan Baker have contributed enough negative value to warrant my
    rather laborious regexp plonking process.

In summary, I apologize that I didn't have the full thread until I visited
a search engine archive which showed all the "brainless dimwit's" posts.

There's no need to make such a long copy and paste job when a link
    would have sufficed.

Do you have an opinion about it you want to share?

I appreciate the full post without comment.

Except it wasn't. There was more. A lot more...

    Exactly.

    It's neither fish nor fowl.

It allows me to form my
own opinion without being told what to think.

It's called making conversation or having a discussion. Having an opinion >>> is not forcing anyone how to think. It adds perspective and *makes* you
think. I do understand that kind of attitude is frowned upon these days.
Amazing that the very same people who will criticize you for supposedly
    "tell [them] what to think"...

...are themselves usually doing exactly that.

It’s amazing! One guy says there was too much content and now the other says there wasn’t enough so he posted the whole article.

Is that the lesson you took from what I did.

I'd say you're even dumber than I thought...

...but actually I knew you were just that dumb.

Providing reams of quoted text is a way of AVOIDING saying something of substance.

    That's the message.

You haven’t provided anything of substance forever so what’s the difference?

And look at the quisling run away.

He started the conversation by providing a topic.

Nope. It's called low effort posting. It adds nothing of worth. There's a reason why that's usually banned in many reddit subs.

    The next person (you)
should have opined on his topic.

Now who's telling people how to behave?

Did I call it or what?

    :-)

FTR I like the new phone, although it's disappointing that the entry level price has increased.

I prefer not use to wireless charging, so wouldn't miss magsafe and I like the longer battery life.

It is curious they've chosen the 16e name which means it'll be updated much more frequently than the old SE.

I'm not currently in the market for a new phone and will keep watching.

I've recently bought myself a stand with wireless charging to charge my
iPhone 16 every night. I put it on its side and it becomes a bedside clock.

Because it suggests a new paradigm for the product, Arlen.

If you call it the "SE" you create a separation from the current
    flagship model.

Once you call it the "iPhone ##e" where "##" is the most current model
number, the expectation is that a new "e" model will come out every time
    the "##" changes.

When you have a selection of different cars with one main model name, do
you expect that when the bring out the next generation of that named
model, the most basic level for that model won't be updated too?

    How dim are you?

Apple has never made a best-in-class chip in its entire history, and there
is a good reason for that, which is the same reason that Pepsi doesn't make
a best in class soda or that Budweiser doesn't make a best in class beer.

Apple is a fantastically adept MARKETING company.
    Nothing more.

    Apple copies.
And then markets the hell out of that copy.

Just like Big Tobacco. Big Soda too.

I'd love for Apple to kick Qualcomm's butt, but, it isn't going to happen. Apple will market this C1 chip as "more efficient", because it's not
better; it's not faster; it's not cheaper; it's not more functional.

    It doesn't do anything much.
But it's "*more efficient*" at not doing anything much.

That's pretty good marketing from Apple if you ask me.
    They're brilliant.

PS: Riding a bicycle is more efficient than driving.
