• Do your market research before selling 7 year old iPad Mini

From Alan Browne@21:1/5 to All on Thu Jul 11 15:48:03 2024
Had an iPad 4 mini, 16 GB, cellular that was getting pretty much 0 use
    so decided to sell it.

Hot off of getting a good price for an antique end table, I quickly
    ginned up a sales offer.

Cable and power block not included.

I decided (having a few years ago sold a full sized iPad with more
memory, including the cable and power block for $100 and struggling to
get that price) that $40 would do it and I'd probably have to wait even
    to get that.

By 18:10 had 5 "is that still for sale" and questions about it.
    By 18:20 it was 7.
    By 18:25 was sold.
By 19:00 it was out the door.

Next time I'll look at offered prices before setting a price.

(And no, I have not looked, don't want to know what I left on the table).

    Was this on eBay, or?

Your offer was a good one. 😁

FB Marketplace - usually the "best" around here, though Kijiji, LesPac
and Craigslist are good too (in that order).

Finally went and looked - I was at the bottom but not by that much.
prices get higher with memory (duh) with 128 GB Mini 4s being in the
    sweet spot ($150 ..$200).

A 16 GB Mini 4 with updated OS doesn't have much room left, alas.

I love to study you strange religious zealots who forget that you paid, oh, let's just rough things out, about $1000 for a $200 tablet, where just the sales tax alone ($100 in California) is half the real worth of the tablet.

Then, in the end, when the entire $1000 was lost to depreciation (since
Apple devices depreciate far faster than any other common devices do),
you're happy to get the sales tax alone out of selling it.

Had that been an Android tablet, at about $200 plus about $20 tax, you
would have thrown it away and lost the *entire* amount.

You strange zealots feel that getting 10% of your costs back and losing
$1000 in the process for a substandard device, is BETTER than losing the
entire $220 on a far superior device in terms of capabilities.

    You don't understand math.
