I have an exclamation mark on imessage and the following message:
"An error occurred and your account (+44xxxx) is signed out of iMessage.

Settings shows no actions required. Where am I supposed to look?

You may need to log out of iCloud and back in, and / or as Joerg says, restart your phone.
