One of the main reasons for Apple’s dominance over the world of mobile
tech is the company’s ecosystem. While the latter is arguably one of
the biggest perks of owning an Apple product, there is a small caveat.
The Apple ecosystem has a way of keeping users bound to the Cupertino company’s products and services.
One particularly nasty aspect of the Apple ecosystem is the Lightning
port. Although the connector has been dropped from the iPad and the
MacBook, it is still present on the iPhone and the AirPods, and has
been a major source of revenue for Apple. This is why the company
reportedly wanted to keep it alive for another iPhone generation or so, according to a new tip.

LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL!
1. The Lightning connector was NEVER ON ANY MAC. I'm not sure I'd put
much stock in anyone who doesn't know that simple fact.
2. So, "major source of revenue"? From what: cable sales?

Well, that’s what happens when you get your “news” from Android-centered
web sites.
Then again, stuff like this is just pure BS:
“Nevertheless, we should keep in mind that Apple will likely do everything in its power to keep its ecosystem alive. Perhaps that is why the company might try to implement a built-in restriction that forces users to buy proprietary cables. Isn’t that the most Apple thing ever? “
Apple’s ecosystem has nothing to do with cables. That this goofball thinks it does - and the absurd bit about “a built-in restriction that forces users to buy proprietary cables” - just shows that this was written by your typical Apple-hating Androidiot. Proprietary USB-C cables?
Trolls gotta troll.

It's a verifiable rumour: https://www.macrumors.com/2023/02/10/apple-planning-to-limit-iphone-15-usb-c-port/
That has caught the attention of EU MEPs.

This rumor that "comes from a user who claims to be an integrated
circuit expert working on Intel's Pentium processors" who has no actual access to Apple's designs or plans, yet claims Apple will be adding a
new IC to MFi USB-C cables. And purely based on that, the author of this misguided article then makes the wild leap to saying this rumored IC
addition to MFi USB-C cables could maybe possibly limit features like
fast charging and high-speed data transfer - a claim with exactly *zero* evidence to back it up.
That has caught the attention of EU MEPs.
SQUIRREL! 🤡

rumour.
