    Today in history, 1960: Harper Lee publishes her first novel, To Kill
    a Mockingbird. Noted for its treatment of a child's awakening to
    racism in the South, the book won the 1961 Pulitzer Prize for Fiction.
    It was an immediate success, eventually selling more than 40 million
    copies.
