    Yale backing Harvard in lawsuit against government

    In a joint motion with 17 other universities, Yale argues that cutting
    federal funds to Harvard endangers the nation.

    Yale has joined a coalition of 18 universities seeking to formally
    back Harvard's lawsuit against the federal government over research
    funding freezes.

    In a motion filed in the U.S. district court in Massachusetts, the
    universities asked for approval to file a full amicus curiae brief in
    support of Harvard. The motion outlines how the Trump administration's
    funding terminations "inflict grievous harm" not only on Harvard, but
    on American research as a whole

    FWIW, US has a long history of supporting R&D/etc for advancing this
    nation in various ways (benefit society and businesses).

    Apparently, this is all about having right leaning
    professors...control freaks the Rs are....

    Yeah, maybe. But we can all probably agree the big name universities have
    gotten dangerously addicted to federal funding and are having a hard time
    getting cut off.

    Most of those universities are off-the-rails expensive. Welcome to pound
    town, folks. Time to get cost competitive again. Too many years suckling
    at the federal teat.

    Sadly, the USG has apparently decided to give away any form of
    leadership in science, innovation, technology. Really shortsighted,
    really stupid. Exactly what you'd expect from this cast of clowns.

    I look forward to the next two decades of scientific advances to come
    from countries other than America. But by then we'll be manufacturing
    again, so maybe China can invent the new iphone and Americans in
    Kentucky can build them in their factories.

    I highly doubt university researchers are sitting on their butts.

    Research dollars are focused...doing something specific.

    Scientific supply stores jack up the prices, since Sputnik days, and
    some equipment needed are very high priced,

    If one looks at 1950's state of the art medical knowledge/instruments,
    and now, there has been a big advancement in tech/knowledge. In other
    fields, the same.

    Money is required to advance tech/knowledge....
