"Federal prosecutors said at trial that Fiore, 54, had raised more
than $70,000 for the statue of a Las Vegas police officer who was
fatally shot in 2014 in the line of duty, but had instead spent some
of it on cosmetic surgery, rent and her daughter's wedding."

    AI Overview

Wire fraud is a federal crime involving fraud or an attempt to defraud
using electronic communication like phones or computers. It's a U.S.
federal crime, and the Department of Justice claims jurisdiction if
the fraud crosses state lines using interstate wire communication or
if the U.S. Postal Service is used. The penalty for wire fraud can be
up to 20 years in prison, a fine, or both

Why was this simple (from a legal standpoint) issue of fraud
brought by the Feds instead of the local DAs? In that case,
    there'd be no Federal pardons...

It's now pretty safe to assume that every GoFundMe is at least 70%
likely to be a scam. Look at "build the wall" and Steve Ballsack, fer
    fuck's sake.

    1. Choose emotionally volatile cause
    2. Raise funds
    3. Keep all/most of the funds
    4. Win! Sweet millionaire lifestyle!

GoFundMe itself is a scam....when they take a piece of the action.

    GoFundMe is a for-profit company
