Thailand 🇹🇠unveils the worlds first AI robocop with 360 vision and facial recognition
Thailand has introduced its first AI-powered police robot to enhance public safety during the Songkran festival in Nakhon Pathom province. The Royal Thai Police officially launched the robot, named "AI Police Cyborg 1.0," on April 16 via a Facebook
announcement. It was stationed at the Tonson Road festival venue in Muang district and also carries the ceremonial name "Pol Col Nakhonpathom Plod Phai," which translates to "Nakhon Pathom is Safe."
The robot was developed through a collaboration between Provincial Police Region 7, Nakhon Pathom Provincial Police, and Nakhon Pathom Municipality. Designed to resemble a futuristic law enforcement unit, it incorporates advanced surveillance and threat
detection technologies. Its AI system processes live data from drones and CCTV networks, allowing for real-time crowd monitoring and rapid response coordination. The robot's 360-degree smart cameras are directly linked to the province's Command and
Control Center, supported by video analytics software for efficient threat assessment.
One of its key features is facial recognition, which helps identify high-risk individuals or wanted suspects by analyzing visual cues such as clothing, body shape, and facial features. It can also detect aggressive behavior, including fights and other
disturbances, and is trained to recognize potential weapons like knives and blunt objects while ignoring harmless items such as water guns commonly used during Songkran celebrations.
Beyond security, the robot serves as an interactive public relations tool, providing festival-goers with safety announcements and directions. Its presence is part of Thailand's broader push to integrate smart technology into law enforcement, following
other innovations like AI traffic management and crime-predicting software.
The RTP has emphasized that this deployment marks a major milestone in Thailand's use of AI for public safety, with plans to expand similar robotic units to other major events and tourist hotspots in the future. The initiative also aligns with the
government's "Thailand 4.0" policy, which promotes digital transformation and smart city development.
