Chinese EV maker's five-minute charge puts the disrupter one step
    closer to conquering global markets
    ...
    ...
BYD's launch on Monday of a new battery charging system able to add
driving range of about 470km [292 miles] in five minutes -- a fraction
of the time it takes a Tesla to add range.

On the other hand... are people comfortable with supporting a company controlled by one of the most authoritarian regimes on the planet? Who
have concentration camps for moslems, and millions of millions of lives on their conscience?

I cannot do that. Instead, I'll stick with my classic gasoline car and a
    clean conscience! =)

    It's a great milestone for EV tech...waiting 5 minutes for a recharge
means not an issue for long distance travelers.

Call me when the cars are as cheap as ICE cars, and the 5 minute charge as readily available as gasoline stations. Oh, and I want to be able to drive
at least 600 km in winter when it's -20 C outside.

Once those things are in place, EV here I come! =D

Actually, cheaper than ICE vehicles to build, except for the
    batteries.

If cheaper batteries exist in the future, goodbye ICE vehicles.

Well, you forgot my other criterias, but I do agree with you, that if the
price reaches ICE prices, and availability of charging in 5 minutes is the
same as gasoline stations, then yes.

    Shall we say 15 years?

Battery researches know the economic reward when they have the patent
for a low cost EV battery.
