Precursor chemicals are needed....I would suspect in US, obtaining
them is not possible via consumers. It has been suggested these are
exported from China. I have no idea what laboratory equipment is
used, but US's DEA has added them to Special Surveillance List.

I highly doubt these precursor chemicals are made via criminals. ========================

Fentanyl and its analogues can be manufactured via a variety of
different synthesis methods (see Figure 1), each of which involve the
use of specific precursor chemicals. https://www.unodc.org/LSS/Announcement/Details/b152bda5-5d71-4f7e-9d68-1bdd9af04a83

    Notice "fentanyl trafficking"

    Aaron Reichlin-Melnick @ReichlinMelnick

Mexico deployed this many troops to its border with the US in both
2019 and 2021, and last year ramped up migrant arrests enough to cause
border crossings to drop by >50%.

So this is not new. At all. And it won't impact fentanyl trafficking,
which is mostly done by US citizens.

War on drugs started with Nixon, and Nixon and future POTUSs lost this
    war.

"Started with Nixon"? Why is that?

(Without further research) I'd speculate that the drug issue started
with LBJ opening the door, thanks to his welfare programs.

    Public Enemy Number One

At a press conference on June 17, 1971, President Nixon, with his
newly appointed Drug authority at his side, declared drug abuse
"public enemy number one." "In order to fight and defeat this enemy,"
he continued, " it is necessary to wage a new, all-out offensive."
With that statement, the "war on drugs" began.

    In short:

    1. Vietnam soldiers were using lots of drugs
    2. Hippies/etc were using drugs
    3. Hippies were not on society's treadmill
