the Nazi's burning bodies.
If vermin invade your home, you exterminate them.
HAMAS started this war last October, Israel will finish it!
Starting to look like Iran might finish it though!

Why did America call it football?
The exact etymology of the word "football" is slightly
unclear, but many historians say the term dates back to the
late Middle Ages, when it was used to refer to any sport that
was played on foot, as opposed to sports played on horseback.
Over centuries, it came to be associated with different
kicking games played throughout the U.K., the rules of which
were eventually combined and standardized to form football (or
soccer, as it became known in the U.S.) in the mid-19th
century.
Around the same time, rugby -- or rugby football -- began
developing in and around England. Though similar to soccer in
that it required a team to advance a ball toward its
opponents' goal, it differed in that players could pick up the
ball and run it down the field.
Over the next decades, American universities began playing
their own early forms of football using rules derived from
both rugby (rugby football) and association football (the
sport that came to be known as soccer). And by the turn of the
century, American games of football had evolved and adopted so
many new rules that they barely resembled U.K. football.
By that time, however, the name "football" had already taken a
foothold in America, and it was here to stay, according to the
Pro Football Hall of Fame.

It was a few linguistically creative University of Oxford students in
the 1880s who first distinguished between the sports of "rugger"
(rugby football) and "assoccer" (association football). The latter
term was further shortened to "soccer" (sometimes spelled "socker")
and the name quickly spread beyond the campus.

I have no idea where the "assoccer" word came from. Old English, or
hipster speech then.

It's illogical as they don't use their feet to kick the ball.
However, on Usenet the main newsgroup for discussing 'real'
football is called rec.sport.soccer ... so some things you just
have to live with! ;-)

Hah! There is a reason that I am not posting in that
erroneously named group! ;) Jokes aside, I happen to think
that football is the most boring sport ever invented, so I
actively do not follow anything related to it.
I think the only three sports in which I have a mild interest
would be, in order of interest, boxing, ice hockey and chess.

I love hockey [NHL] and chess... I don't see you in
rec.sport.hockey... unfortunately it's a semi-dead newsgroup
that could do with some contributions from people. There was a
Canadian dude that tried to liven it up recently with some
discussions but he wasn't getting much response. Maybe in
October it'll pick up again? See you there!

A lexicographer could come up with a descriptive word:-)
