I think the era of classic world wars � la WW2 is gone. Instead I think
for surgical and localized proxy battle fields might emerge in non-NATO countries like arabia, ukraine, africa, maybe south east asia.

In terms of attacks against NATO countries I believe more in terrorism, biological warfare, cyber attacks and so on to destablize countries.
Psy-ops to install friendly governments is also a technique of the future.

So this is how I think conflicts will happen in the future.

By later this century, fresh water will be the resource that wars are fought over.

Doubt it. Desalination + solar power will solve that problem.
