Wendy's Is Introducing Uber-Style 'Surge Pricing'

Your favorite Wendy's item could cost more, or less, depending on what
time you order in the future.

You soon might want to get strategic about the exact time you visit
    Wendy's.

In early February, Kirk Tanner, the new CEO and president of Wendy's,
shared with analysts his various plans to increase company profits,
including investing in digital menu boards that will have the capacity
to display dynamic pricing that fluctuates throughout the day by 2025.

And, because this is bullshit, the surge is going to mean the tide goes
out and people choose to eat elsewhere.

Classic MBA-level bullshit. What would Dave say?

I believe it will fail....but watch for Monkey-See, Monkey-Do CEOs
    attempting this.

McDonalds could do this now....but if done, they will test it at a
    store or two first

It will tick people off, if done.

Interesting! I think customers will be annoyed since burgers is easily
replaced with other alternatives close by, or even with burgers from other chains across the street.

A taxi drive happens when I need to get from A to B, and often with a time limit which makes it less likely during surge pricing that I'll decline,
and wait some time and try again.

What I do during excessive surge pricing is to try 1 or 2 other apps to
see if the price is lower.

I don't think this will work, but, it will be very interesting to follow!

And don't get me started on the "agile organization". I sometimes do not understand how MBA-level BS like that can get a hold inside a company!

Wendy's clarifies 'dynamic pricing' system won't raise prices at peak
    times
    ...
    ...
"To clarify, Wendy's will not implement surge pricing, which is the
practice of raising prices when demand is highest. We didn't use that
phrase, nor do we plan to implement that practice," a spokesperson
said in an email to NBC News. They added there are "no plans" to raise
    prices at high-demand times.

"We said these (digital) menu boards would give us more flexibility to
change the display of featured items. This was misconstrued in some
media reports as an intent to raise prices when demand is highest at
our restaurants. We have no plans to do that and would not raise
prices when our customers are visiting us most," the Feb. 26 statement
reads. "Any features we may test in the future would be designed to
benefit our customers and restaurant crew members. Digital menu boards
could allow us to change the menu offerings at different times of day
and offer discounts and value offers to our customers more easily,
particularly in the slower times of day."

Haha, yeah right. I think someone was not quite in line with the will of
    the organization. =)

Their press department is in action, and pretty mealy mouthed about
trying to explain their way out of this. In another interview i heard
them explain their intent is to offer discounts in non-peak times to get
more people into the stores. That's actually a good idea and would've
worked well if they hadn't made such a mess of it.

The more you have to explain it, the more you need to recognized you
    F'ed up, folks.

Jesus Christ... the PR-man who connected this with "surge pricing" needs
    to be shot.

As you say, if the focus would have been lower prices, less food waste
etc. etc. I think it would have generated some good will.

Now they just need to shut up, wait a few months and try again. ;)

Be nice to see actual press release, or video.

Wendy's did get a new Chief Information Officer, two days ago.

Sure, charge more for primetime as "regular prices," then in
    non-primetime, have "discounted prices."

    Ain't no difference...primetime = surge prices.
