Seems fair to me. If I gotta pay the toll, you gotta pay the toll.

If Americans would get over their fear of traffic cameras you could
immediately get everyone to obey the speed limit by simply putting in an automated vehicle speed-detector -> license plate reader -> ticket
sender pipeline. Automate it with a couple of bash scripts,
ferfuck'ssake. Do away with traffic cops entirely. Suddenly, everyone
    is driving the speed limit.

Not sure how that would work with out of state vehicles.

It has been suggested to just control speed electronically, whereby
the vehicle is sent road speed info, and obeys.

It works really well actually. I got a speeding ticket from a camera in
early morning hours (roads were empty). Camera caught my out-of-state
plate and mailed the ticket to my (former) residence out-of-state. And
I paid it. (and I was ticked off).

Anyway, just one data point to show the system can work.

I've driven vehicles with speed-limiting governors, they are dangerous
because they can't get out of their own way. More to the point, they can't
get out of the way of an impending accident.

Another problem: the suggestion above, "control speed electronically ...
and obeys", would usurp the driver's command authority. Just as a ship has only one captain or an airplane has only one pilot-in-command, an
auto/truck has only one driver. If s/he speeds, a ticket and stiff fine is appropriate.

Interesting concept that seems to oppose State Laws which prescribe
    submission.

I lived in a state which passed a law that required windshield wiper
operation for any rain, even a sprinkle. Many people did not submit. The
    law didn't last very long.

When 55 mph was the speed limit on interstates, etc., I drove from LA
to Las Vegas on a Friday fall night doing 70 mph and + with the herd.

Trooper was keeping pace with us....

In Phoenix while doing 55 mph on a motorcycle, the trooper pulled me
over and warned me to drive faster.

    Yep, happens frequently.

I was driving north over the Golden Gate bridge, sign said speed limit 60
mph. Highway Patrol car burped and said "Brown Kansas car, either keep up
with traffic or get off of the freeway."

Another time, I was approaching Ely, NV at something over 90 mph when I saw
a HP car in the rear-view mirror. I thought "Oh poo!" and slowed slightly.
The HP car passed me and disappeared into the mirage ahead.
