• extreme politics at its worst

House Speaker Kevin McCarthy announced Tuesday he is calling on his
committees to open a formal impeachment inquiry into President Joe
Biden, even as they have yet to prove allegations he directly profited
off his son's foreign business deals.

The move comes amid increasing pressure from his right flank to move
ahead with the inquiry, including some on his far right who have
threatened to oust McCarthy from his speakership if he does not move
swiftly enough on such an investigation. McCarthy is also trying to
secure votes as part of negotiations to keep the government funded
beyond the September 30 deadline to avert a shutdown.

"These are allegations of abuse of power, obstruction and corruption,"
the California Republican said in remarks outside his office on
Capitol Hill. "They warrant further investigation by the House of Representatives. That's why today I am directing our House
(committees) to open a formal impeachment inquiry into President Joe
    Biden."

The House-led GOP investigations have yet to provide any direct
evidence that the president financially benefited from Hunter Biden's
    career overseas.

White House spokesman for oversight and investigations Ian Sams called
it "extreme politics at its worst."

McCarthy barely got the job in the first place: remember how they
rejected him something like 17 times before finally giving him the role
of speaker? He's essentially the unlucky captain of a ship crewed by
snakes. The radical right is clearly hungry for this impeachment. I
would venture giving them an investigation who personally knows is
ridiculous, pointless, and stupid was a capitulation. "You want an investigation? Fuck it, here ya go, fucktards[1]. Knock yourselves
    out."

I personally am going to make some popcorn and enjoy the show. The
rest of their investigations, panels, committees, and the like have
been fruitless, at great taxpayer expense. Biden is going to laugh
himself right into a second term.[2]

[1] No offense intended to actual people with disabilities, who I
suspect would govern far better than the knuckleheads we have in
    Congress. Really.

[2] Guarantee you he wishes Hunter had been the son who died young
though; what a burden he's been.

Tit for tat, but Trump had dirty laundry....also, hoping to shovel
dirt on Biden for up-coming political ads before next election.

It would not surprise me if the orange one is behind this show.

Totally agree with you. But even if the Cheeto isn't behind it, the
minions have learned from him. The allegations don't have to even be
true anymore, just something to plaster over the airwaves.

Who was that radical republican woman - Colorado or Georgia - who's
been trying to impeach Biden over the "border crisis" since last year.

Americans get shitty democracy because they don't insist on better, and
are too busy shopping to care.

Well, that's certainly easier than coming up with decent policy that
aligns with American interests and priorities, that's for sure.

Their interests tend to support business culture....but throwing mud
pies at the opposition seems to be all they can do these days.

There is an opinion article recently suggesting they may take an
election hit for their mud pie game. Their "news outlets" feast upon
this nonsense, and of course, many of those watching don't understand
    their subterfuge.

I've got Disneyworld on line 2; they say your opinion is out of date.

I dunno man, can American electors remember anything long enough to
make it to the poll? Seems to me like everyone understands clearly they
go into the poll fixated on whatever issue got blasted at them the week
    before.

Maybe I'm jaded, but I've lost faith that the American people are
capable of throwing out a shitty party on the basis of bad policy. And
look how that's working out for us.

Independent Voters Have the Final, and Future, Say

An unpopular Democratic president and economic pessimism were shaping
up to be key ingredients for midterm success for Republicans -- until independent voters stepped in.

Independent voters provided the biggest surprise of 2022. Even as they
were primed for change, independent voters didn't punish Democratic
candidates for President Joe Biden's performance and were
uncomfortable with GOP nominees in key races. That helped Democrats
hold the Senate and left Republicans with a slim majority in the
    House.

Even though Republicans won the House majority, there should be some soul-searching within the party since it's the third consecutive cycle
    that independent voters chose Democrats.
