• pocket telephone

In March 1919, the Daily Mirror newspaper published a cartoon by the
English cartoonist and caricaturist, William Kerridge Haselden
(1872-1953), predicting the invention - and some of the effects - of
    the 'pocket telephone.'

The cartoon was placed alongside other situations where this 'pocket
telephone' might prove a personal annoyance and social nuisance:
whether it be on a busy train, when you're in a hurry, at a concert,
with babies, or even when you're at the altar.

It was not until 54 years later, in 1973, that the first handheld
cellular mobile phone was demonstrated in public by John F. Mitchell
    and Martin Cooper of Motorola.

The latter just conjured up a picture of a reluctant groom at the altar
pulling out his mobile and saying "Beam me up, Scottie!"

It's amazing how that "rings" true today, over 100 years later.

    William Kerridge Haselden

At the Daily Mirror, Haselden originally started with political
cartoons, but soon settled into his trademark style of gentle,
conservative social commentary reflecting on middle-class fashions and
manners. His cartoons usually consisted of a single frame divided into
a number of panels, for which he has been viewed as the father of
    British strip cartoon.

Haselden often lampooned social and technological trends of the time
by making bold predictions about how the future would transpire,
    including fashion,[2] camera phones[3] and feminism.[4]

If only he could have predicted the silence feature.

Too many selfish people can't be bothered to use such a feature when
necessary, anyway. I think that his point about the inconvenience of a convenience feature was relayed well.
